Puukuokka has won this year’s esteemed Finlandia Prize for Architecture. Puukuokka is a high-rise residential building in Jyväskylä, Finland. Profin provided the glass sliding doors for the award-winning building.
The winner was chosen by composer Kaija Saariaho. The Puukuokka building represents things that Saariaho values in life and architecture.
– It is bold and ambitious. It explores something new, it is designed for people and takes ecological considerations into account in its quest to improve the quality of life, Saariaho says.
Profin is proud to be a part of the award-winning building: we manufactured the glass sliding doors that connect the balcony and the indoor spaces.
– Glass sliding doors are used to improve the building’s design and practicality – from the viewpoint of both architects and inhabitants. This has been an international trend and it’s great that now it’s a part of Finnish architecture too, Profin’s CEO Mikko Haapala says.
Developing wood construction is a vital part of Profin: we have utilized the versatility of wood for over 40 years.
Puukuokka was designed by OOPEAA Office for Peripheral Architecture. The developer of Puukuokka was Lakea and general contractor JVR-rakenne.
